The highway tunnel system in China has in recent years surpassed Europe, the United States, and other developed countries in terms of mileage, scale, complexity, and technical achievement. Much scientific research has been conducted, and the results have greatly facilitated the rapid development of China's highway tunnel building capacity. This article presents the historical development of highway tunneling in China, according to specific charac- teristics based on construction and operation. It provides a systematic analysis of the major achievements and chal- lenges with respect to construction techniques, operation, monitoring, repair, and maintenance. Together with future trends of highway tunneling in China, suggestions have been made for further research, and development prospects have been identified with the for a Chinese-style highway aim of laying the foundation tunnel construction method and technical architecture. 展开更多

Numerical simulations of self-propelled swimming of a three dimensional bionic fish and fish school in a viscous fluid are carried out. This is done with the assistance of a parallel software package produced for 3D moving boundary problems. This computational fluid dynamics package combines the adaptive multi-grid finite volume method, the immersed boundary method and VOF (volume of fluid) method. By using the package results of the self-propelled swimming of a 3D bionic fish and fish school in a vis- cous fluid are obtained. With comparison to the existing experimental measurements of living fishes, the predicted structure of vortical wakes is in good agreement with the measurements. 展开更多

The chemical composition of the water was measured along 9 stations downstream with respect to Ca<sup>2+</sup>, Mg<sup>2+</sup>, Na<sup>+</sup>,K<sup>+</sup>, Cl<sup>-</sup>, carbonate alkalinlty, and SO<sub>4</sub><sup>2-</sup>. Temperature and pH were measured in situ. Small rectangular shaped tablets of limestone from the area were immersed into the stream for short periods and water analyses were carried out at the same time. An adaptive version of immersed boundary method for simulating flows with complex stationary and moving boundaries is presented.The method employs a ghost-cell methodology which allows for a sharp representation of the immersed boundary.To simplify the implementation of the methodology,a volume-of-fluid method is introduced to identify the immersed boundary.In addition,the domain is spatially discretized using a tree-based discretization which is relatively simple to implement a fully flexible adaptive refinement strategy.Finally,the methodology is validated by comparing it with numerical and experimental results on three cases:(1) the flow passing a circular cylinder at Re=40 and Re=100,(2) a periodic oscillation of a circular cylinder in fluid at rest and(3) the self-propelled fish-like swimming at Re=6400. 展开更多

The time domain responses of the tunnel element under wave actions during its immersion are investigated based on the linear wave diffraction theory. The integral equation is derived by using the time-domain Green function that satisfies the free water surface condition in the finite water depth, and is solved by the boundary element method. The motion equations of the tunnel element are solved by the fourth order Runge-Kutta method. A comparison between the computed and measured results reveals that the numerical model can effectively simulate the motion responses of the tunnel element and the cable tensions when the motions of the tunnel element are within some limit. Taking the tunnel element of 100 m in length, 15 m in width and 10 m in height as an example, the computational results of the motion responses of the tunnel element and the cable tensions in different immersing depths are obtained under different incident wave conditions. 展开更多

The particle motion is described by the time-driven hard-sphere model, while the hydrodynamic equations governing fluid flow are solved by the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM), Particle-fluid coupling is realized by an immersed boundary method (IBM), which considers the effect of boundary on surrounding fluid as a restoring force added to the governing equations of the fluid. The proposed scheme is validated in the classical flow-around-cylinder simulations, and preliminary application of this scheme to fluidization is reported, demonstrating it to be a promising computational strategy for better understanding complex behavior in particle-fluid systems. 展开更多

Bridges and tunnels are good solutions to transportation problems in large cities separated by large rivers. In bridge construction great success has been achieved in China, but large-sized immersed tube tunnel construction is still new. Element immersing is an important process of immersed tube tunnel construction. The accuracy of tunnel element positioning directly determines the quality of tunnel construction. In order to study the behavior of elements during its lowering to the sea bed, the experiments carried out in the State Key Laboratory of Ocean Engineering of Shanghai Jiaotong University. In consideration of the construction experience abroad and by reference to published papers on the Oresund tunnel in Norway-Sweden and Tokyo Bay tunnel in Japan, an element model to an appropriate scale is developed. A concise description of the model experiment wave environments is carried out, and the feasibility of two immersing strategies is studied. 展开更多

In the past decades, many underwater tunnels have been constructed in the mainland of China, and great progress has been made in related tunneling technologies. This paper presents the history and state of the art of underwater tunnels in the mainland of China in terms of shield-bored tunnels, drill-and-blast tunnels, and immersed tunnels. Typical underwater tunnels of these types in the mainland of China are described, along with innovative technologies regarding comprehensive geological prediction, grouting-based consolidation, the design and construction of large cross-sectional tunnels with shallow cover in weak strata, cutting tool replacement under limited drainage and reduced pressure conditions, the detection and treatment of boulders, the construction of underwater tunnels in areas with high seismic intensity, and the treatment of serious sedimentation in a foundation channel of immersed tunnels. Some suggestions are made regarding the three potential great strait-crossing tunnels-the Qiongzhou Strait-Crossing Tunnel, Bohai Strait-Crossing Tunnel, and Taiwan Strait-Crossing Tunnel--and issues related to these great strait-crossing tunnels that need further study are proposed. 展开更多

A novel method is proposed to combine the wall-modeled large-eddy simulation(LES) with the diffuse-interface direct-forcing immersed boundary(IB) method.The new developments in this method include:(i) the momentum equation is integrated along the wall-normal direction to link the tangential component of the effective body force for the IB method to the wall shear stress predicted by the wall model;(ii) a set of Lagrangian points near the wall are introduced to compute the normal component of the effective body force for the IB method by reconstructing the normal component of the velocity. This novel method will be a classical direct-forcing IB method if the grid is fine enough to resolve the flow near the wall. The method is used to simulate the flows around the DARPA SUBOFF model. The results obtained are well comparable to the measured experimental data and wall-resolved LES results. 展开更多

We prove that, for initial data with a bounded variation, the numerical solution of the immersed interface upwind scheme converges in L^l-norm to the differential equation with the corresponding interface condition. We derive the one-halfth order L^l-error bounds with explicit coefficients following a technique used in [25]. Body-fitted mesh generation has long been the bottleneck of simulating fluid flows involving complex geometries. Immersed boundary methods are non-boundary-conforming methods that have gained great popularity in the last two decades for their simplicity and flexibility, as well as their non-compromised accuracy. This paper presents a summary of some numerical algori- thms along the line of sharp interface direct forcing approaches and their applications in some practical problems. The algorithms include basic Navier-Stokes solvers, immersed boundary setup procedures, treatments of stationary and moving immersed bounda- ries, and fluid-structure coupling schemes. Applications of these algorithms in particulate flows, flow-induced vibrations, biofluid dynamics, and free-surface hydrodynamics are demonstrated. Some concluding remarks are made, including several future research directions that can further expand the application regime of immersed boundary methods. 展开更多

The underwater vehicle model is taken as the DARPA SUBOFF with full appendages, where the Reynolds number based on the hull length is 1.0x 105, An immersed boundary method based on the moving-least-squares reconstruction is used to handle the complex geometric boundaries. The adaptive mesh refinement is utilized to resolve the flows near the hull, The parallel scalabilities of the flow solver are tested on meshes with the number of cells varying from 50 million to 3.2 billion, The parallel solver reaches nearly linear scalability for the flows around the underwater vehicle model, The present simulation captures the essential features of the vortex structures near the hull and in the wake, Both of the time-averaged pressure coefficients and srreamwise velocity profiles obtained from the LES are consistent with the characteristics of the flows pass an appended axisymmetric body. The code efficiency and its correct predictions on flow features allow us to perform the full-scale simulations on tens of thousands of cores with billions of grid points for higher-Reynolds-number flows around the underwater vehicles. 展开更多

Dynamic fluid-solid interactions are widely found in chemical engineering, such as in particle-laden flows, which usually contain complex moving boundaries. The immersed boundary method (IBM) is a convenient approach to handle fluid-solid interactions with complex geometries. In this work, Uhlmann's direct-forcing IBM is improved and implemented on a supercomputer with CPU-GPU hybrid architec- ture. The direct-forcing IBM is modified as follows: the Poisson's equation for pressure is solved before evaluation of the body force, and the force is only distributed to the Cartesian grids inside the immersed boundary. A multidirect forcing scheme is used to evaluate the body force. These modifications result in a divergence-free flow field in the fluid domain and the no-slip boundary condition at the immersed boundary simultaneously. This method is implemented in an explicit finite-difference fractional-step scheme, and validated by 2D simulations of lid-driven cavity flow, Couette flow between two concentric cylinders and flow over a circular cylinder. Finally, the method is used to simulate the sedimentation of two circular particles in a channel. The results agree very well with previous experimental and numerical data, and are more accurate than the conventional direct-forcing method, especially in the vicinity of a moving boundary. 展开更多

目的了解二氧化氯溶液喷雾消毒对藻酸盐印模模型精度的影响。方法用59mm×16mm×16mm标准试件制取印模。实验分为3个消毒处理组,分别处以2%戊二醛浸泡消毒20min,1%84消毒液浸泡消毒20min,550mg/L二氧化氯喷雾消毒后放入100%密... 目的了解二氧化氯溶液喷雾消毒对藻酸盐印模模型精度的影响。方法用59mm×16mm×16mm标准试件制取印模。实验分为3个消毒处理组,分别处以2%戊二醛浸泡消毒20min,1%84消毒液浸泡消毒20min,550mg/L二氧化氯喷雾消毒后放入100%密闭容器中20min,不处理组作为对照组。采用三坐标测量机分析消毒处理后的印模灌制出模型的尺寸改变,精确度可达0.001mm。实验结果用SPSS11.0统计软件包进行统计分析。结果2%戊二醛和1%84消毒液浸泡20min后,与对照组相比在水平向、垂直向尺寸变化差异均有统计学意义(P<0.05)。对照组与二氧化氯喷涂消毒处理相比,差异无统计学意义(P>0.05)。结论3种消毒方法处理印模20min均不影响修复体制作的精度,但二氧化氯溶液喷雾消毒对藻酸盐印模模型精度的影响比2%戊二醛和1%84消毒液均小,更适用于临床。 展开更多

The aim of this study is to develop a model of fluid and heat transfer in a biological tissue taking into account the exact structure of the related microvascular network,and to analyze the influence of structural changes of such a network induced by diabetes.A cubic region representing local skin tissue is selected as the computational domain,which in turn includes two intravascular and extravascular sub-domains.To save computational resources,the capillary network is reduced to a 1D pipeline model and embedded into the extravascular region.On the basis of the immersed boundary method(IBM)strategy,fluid and heat fluxes across a capillary wall are distributed to the surrounding tissue nodes by a delta function.We consider both steady and periodic blood pressure conditions at the entrances of the capillary network.Under steady blood pressure conditions,both the interstitial fluid pressure and tissue temperature around the capillary network are larger than those in other places.When the periodic blood pressure condition is considered,tissue temperature tends to fluctuate with the same frequency of the forcing,but the related waveform displays a smaller amplitude and a certain time(phase)delay.When the connectivity of capillary network is diminished,the capacity of blood redistribution through the capillary network becomes weaker and a subset of the vessel branches lose blood flow,which further aggravates the amplitude attenuation and time delay of the skin temperature fluctuation. 展开更多

In this paper, a method that combines the characteristic-based split finite element method(CBS-FEM) and the direct forcing immersed boundary(IB) method is proposed for the simulation of incompressible viscous flows. The structured triangular meshes without regarding the location of the physical boundary of the body is adopted to solve the flow, and the no-slip boundary condition is imposed on the interface. In order to improve the computational efficiency, a grid stretching strategy for the background structured triangular meshes is adopted. The obtained results agree very well with the previous numerical and experimental data. The order of the numerical accuracy is shown to be between 1 and 2. Moreover, the accuracy control by adjusting the number density of the mark points purely at certain stages is explored, and a second power law is obtained. The numerical experiments for the flow around a cylinder behind a backward-facing step show that the location of the cylinder can affect the sizes and the shapes of the corner eddy and the main recirculation region. The lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) is a useful technique for simulating multiphase flows and modeling complex physics. Specifically, we use LBM combined with a direct-forcing (DF) immersed boundary (IB) method to simulate fluid-particle interactions in two-phase particulate flows. Two grids are used in the simulation: a fixed uniform Eulerian grid for the fluid phase and a Lagrangian grid that is attached to and moves with the immersed particles. Forces are calculated at each Lagrangian point. To exchange numerical information between the two grids, discrete delta functions are used. The resulting DF IB-LBM approach is then successfully applied to a variety of reference flows, namely the sedimentation of one and two circular particles in a vertical channel, the sedimentation of one or two spheres in an enclosure, and a neutrally buoyant prolate spheroid in a Couette flow. This last application proves that the developed approach can be used also for non-spherical particles. The three forcing schemes and the different factors affecting the simulation (added mass effect, corrected radius) are also discussed. 展开更多
