The national public welfare forests in Guangdong Province has played an important role in such aspects as territorial ecological security, biodiversity protection and ecological barriers. By geospatial analysis, among the national public welfare forests in Guangdong Province, the distribution area in karst area is 21.85%, which is the emphasis of ecological protection and recovery. The percentage of occurring moderate erosion and intensity erosion in the national public welfare forests in karst area is 11.63%;the percentage of the exposure of bedrock above 50% is 53.19%;its vegetation with shrubbery as the main one, accounts for 60.69%,showing that the ecological environment is vulnerable. From 2011 to 2016,theland area of rocky desertification of the national public welfare forests within karst area decreases 1 994 hm2,the area of moderate erosion and intensity erosion deceases 2 116 hm2 and 483 hm2 respectively, showing that through restoration measures such as mountain closure for forest cultivation, artificial afforestation and ecological restoration within national public welfare forests, the ecological status in karst area appears good development situation, and plays an decisive role to the ecological restoration of ecologically vulnerable area.
