Oth systolic and diastolic cardiac functions were
evaluated in 54 lead exposed workers and 24 non-exposed workers by Doppler
echocardiography. The results showed that cardiac systolic function was increased in
exposedgroups and accompanied by elevation of systolic blood pressure, suggesting a
compensatory response to the effect oflead on myocardium. The time-related diastolic
parameters in exposed grotips were not different from the control, but blood flow velocity
through the mitral valve and Doppler area fractions changed significantly in lead
exposedgroups. The decrease of diastolic cardiac function was marked in lead intoxication
group.
