This paper surveys seven main issues and related key techniques in ViSC around its achievements, problems and future directions. It points out that theoretical model is ViSC's foun-dation, while modeling and rendering method is its kernel; perceptability, its aim;parallelism, its need ; hardware, its tool; and standardization, its tendency. The author thinks that volume visu-alization, supported by volume modeling and volume rendering, is current ViSC's trend
